Coming to the end of year, I was looking for some bubbles that didn’t come with a huge price tag. Making a point to forgo Champagne, I kept exploring and found this nice-looking bottle from the Loire Valley.
This wine was a pleasant surprise – many people would pay good money to get this kind of flavour profile from a Champagne, that nice toasty breadiness that usually comes from spending a lot of times on lees. My only complaint would be that it seemed to lack that vigorous, creamy bead that makes Champagne stand out.
